DIRECTOR TONISLAV HRISTOV'S NEW FEATURE DRAMA THE GOOD DRIVER IS HEADING TO GOTHENBURG FILM FESTIVAL
THE INTERNATIONALLY AWARDED DIRECTOR TONISLAV HRISTOV'S THE GOOD DRIVER HAS BEEN SELECTED FOR THE GOTHENBURG FILM FESTIVAL. THE FILM HAS BEEN PRODUCED BY MAKING MOVIES - A FILM COMPANY KNOWN FOR ITS QUALITY DRAMAS.
The new drama will premiere in cinemas nationwide in Finland on February 17, by B-Plan Distribution. The Good Driver is the first feature film by Bulgarian-born director-screenwriter Hristov, known for his documentary films, who moved to Finland in the early 2000s.
At the Gothenburg Film Festival taking place from January 27 to February 5, 2023, The Good Driver is included in the Nordic Light -series, which presents new Nordic cinema. Founded in 1979, the Gothenburg Film Festival is one of the most significant film festivals in Europe.
It's great that The Good Driver will have its Nordic premiere in the deserved place, at the finest film festival in the Nordics, Gothenburg. It's a great honor for a debut feature film, rejoices the film's producer and screenwriter Kaarle Aho.
– This suits us perfectly also in the sense that after its Finnish premiere, the film will also get a commercial theater distribution in Sweden later in the spring.
Official Selection
The leading role of The Good Driver is played by Malin Krastev, who is one of the most famous and beloved actors in Bulgaria. Other roles in the film are played by Gerasim Georgiev, Slava Doycheva, Alma Pöysti and Amos Brotherus.
Set in Bulgaria and Finland, The Good Driver tells a touching story of a taxi driver Ivan (Krastev), who tries to raise money to return to Finland to his family (Pöysti and Brotherus). The sensitive and compelling drama is a depiction of the attempt to correct past mistakes.
– On the surface, we see how Ivan longs for his family living in Finland. But in fact, he misses his past: a time when the world seemed open to him and he had not yet made serious mistakes.
Hristov's internationally acclaimed documentaries include Veera's Magic Life (2019), The Good Postman (2016), Love & Engineering - The Engineers of Love (2014), Soul Food Stories (2013), and The Rules of Single Life (2011).

The film's first press screening in Helsinki is on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. During the premiere week in Helsinki, there will also be opportunities to interview the film's creators at both the press conference and the red carpet at the invitation-only premiere.
