MAKING MOVIES PRESENTED THREE PROJECTS AT FINNISH FILM AFFAIR

Making Movies participated in the 15th Finnish Film Affair, held on 23–25 September, with Alma, Happyland (Kesämaa) and Mariana’s Lament (Kyynelten laulu).

Alma was presented in the Nordic Genre Lab showcase. Directed by Pete Riski and written by Ilja Rautsi, the supernatural coming-of-age thriller follows a teenager who reconnects with her estranged grandmother and discovers a dark legacy of telekinetic powers. The film is produced by Pauliina Piipponen, Kai Nordberg and Kaarle Aho for Making Movies. Read more about Alma and Nordic Genre Lab in Variety.

At AVEK’s Kehittämö Talent Development Lab, writer Jonnakaisa Risto presented Happyland together with producers Pauliina Maus and Kaarle Aho. Told through the eyes of an eleven-year-old girl, the feature explores her relationship with her unreliable father during a midsummer week they spend together before she moves to Sweden. The project is in development, with the team planning to attach a director later this autumn.

In the documentary showcase, producer Kaarle Aho joined directors Antti Haase and Mariana Reyes to present Mariana’s Lament. The project was also named among the documentary titles that stood out at this year’s Finnish Film Affair by Variety.

Making Movies’ Junior Producer Pauliina Maus also took part in Nordic Flair, FFA’s career development programme for emerging Nordic producers. The three-day programme brought together ten producers from across the Nordic countries for workshops and discussions with international film industry professionals.

Finnish Film Affair is the industry event of the Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy.
