SANDS OF SARASVATI ANNOUNCED IN VARIETY

Variety has announced that Finnish director AJ Annila will direct Sands of Sarasvati, an international eco-thriller based on the acclaimed novel by Risto Isomäki.

The film is produced by Making Movies together with international partners, and follows a team of scientists investigating ancient underwater ruins and a growing environmental catastrophe linked to climate change.

Originally published in 2005, Isomäki’s The Sands of Sarasvati (Sarasvatin hiekkaa) became an international success and has been translated into multiple languages. The novel combines scientific speculation, environmental themes and large-scale adventure storytelling.

AJ Annila is known internationally for films including Jade Warrior, Sauna and Immortal. The adaptation marks a major international feature project combining Finnish creative talent with international production collaboration.
