Zhang’s Diner tells the story of Zhang JingTao and his wife Xiao Jing, unemployed Chinese couple who moved to Beijing in search of better life. The reality proved not to be what they expected.

The business is not running well, the authorities and the police are constantly after illegal residents and deporting them back to their home provinces. In spite of everyday difficulties Zhang is determined to succeed and go back to home province as a rich man. Otherwise he would lose his face.
